Tips For a Successful Open House

One of the best ways to sell your Buffalo real estate is to host an open house. What better way to bring potential buyers interested in Buffalo real estate opportunities right to your doorstep? At Stovroff & Taylor Realtors, we are experts at helping our home sellers prepare their property for an open house. Here are some tips for a successful open house.

  • Strong Curb Appeal

If people don’t like what they see on the outside of your house, chances are, they won’t bother stepping inside! Your landscaping and appearance of your house are key selling points for your Buffalo real estate.

  • Make sure all flowers and bushes are pruned, and all mulch or stone is fresh, and that there are no weeds.
  • Remove any branches hanging near the home or gutters. The best time to mow your grass is two days prior to the open house; the lawn looks freshly cut, but loose blades of grass will have vanished and won’t be tracked through the house!
  • Power wash the outside of your house to brighten its appearance. Consider painting the trim if it is weathered or peeling.

  • Inside…Home Neat Home
  • Put away all personal photographs; they show that the house is someone else’s home. Prospective home buyers need to picture themselves living there.
  • Eliminate ALL visible clutter! We all have small piles that we accumulate over time. Clear your desk, tables, and counters, put away laundry baskets, remove items on your stairs and any other areas that look unkempt.
  • Vacuum all carpeting. If there are stains, we recommend they are steam cleaned.
  • Floors should be freshly cleaned.
  • Heavy cleaning should be done two days prior to the open house to allow the scents and smells of cleaning solutions to dissipate. If weather allows, open windows to allow fresh air to circulate at least 24-hours prior to the event.
  • One hour prior to the open house boil a cinnamon in a pot of water for a couple of minutes to introduce a pleasant scent into the home.
